Where are the panthers and the weathermen? Americans have a strong history in this country of revolt, revolution and resistance. It is in our genes so how then in such a bleak but well informed time have we been cut off from that proud aspect of our past?
Ok. Can we all agree that the world is up shit creek? Capitalism has burned through America and is on its way to China for more carnage. While canvassing with Occupy the Hood I’ve been on the corners and the campuses talking to people of all ethnic backgrounds. From that experience I can tell you that at least a quarter of the people are aware that our system of government is corrupted by special interest and greedy back room deals conducted by forces unnamed, unseen and anonymous. At the very least the overwhelming majority of the people understand that our system of government does not work. What was once called the American way of life was an illusion to the disenfranchised and the privileged that it was available to should know by now that uncle Sam is on his death bed. The enlightened knew it was a lie to begin with and in 2013 everyone else should know it as well. The Federal Reserve Bank prints money out of thin air. Police kill unarmed people every 36 hours. People get life for non-violent crimes. If these infringements of civil liberty isn’t enough let me ask you a few questions. Do we live in a democracy? No. We live in a republic. Is the president the man elected to the White House by a majority vote of the people? See Electoral College. Lastly, is this new to anybody? No. In this the cyber generation all the information is at our feet. We all know about the Fed, Outsourcing, GMO’s, Predator drones, Afri-com , corporate welfare, the prison industrial complex, Gitmo, and countless other erosion of so-called American freedoms and principles. My question then is where are the people? We all know that quote by that old guy that said for the tree of freedom to stand it must be refreshed by the blood of patriots or whatever. Why is only a small few willing to actually take action against the tyranny of our day?
Is it that the American ego has saturated the soil enough to grow a population of self centered ego-maniacal me-niacs? Are the masses to content with cafe mocha lattes, tablets and hip electric cars? Is everyone to afraid of losing their much beloved social status or unable to look back while climbing the latter to success? What happens when you which the top? So many crusading politicians and hell raising reverends start on fire about a certain cause only to fizz out in the end. Beaten by complacency and paid off by pride.
Instead of panthers we have hamsters spinning on wheels. There use to be rebels without a cause; we now have causes without rebels. The people are hopelessly drugged, repressed and bought off to be concerned about the welfare of the common man are the future of their own children. I referred to this age as the cyber age earlier but it seems that we are more akin to the zombie age. Pop culture has so tapped into our inner insecurities that we can no longer be called a free society. SO if the question I’m asking is, where are the people? I guess the answer would be that they are busy. Busy trying to become the next pop star, rap mogul and sports star. So it’s know wonder why The U.S. is fucked up and politicians do what they want with our money and cops shoot us down in the streets. Their is no one at the drivers seat. The Mob that is needed to keep the system aligned is absent. Long live the Mob
